CULLMAN, Ala. — Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs has proclaimed May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month in the City of Cullman, recognizing the importance of mental wellness and continued efforts to expand awareness, support, and access to care throughout the community.
The proclamation highlights that mental health is an essential part of overall well-being and acknowledges that mental health conditions affect individuals and families across every part of the community. Local community assessments have also identified mental health access, crisis support, substance abuse recovery, and availability of providers as ongoing needs within Cullman County.
“Mental health issues touch every household in some way,” Jacobs said. “No one should feel like they have to face those challenges alone. When people know where to turn for help, our entire community grows stronger.”
The proclamation recognizes the many healthcare providers, agencies, nonprofits, counselors, and organizations working to support mental wellness in Cullman, including Cullman Regional Medical Center, WellStone Behavioral Health, The Sanctuary at the Woodlands, the Alabama Department of Mental Health, and numerous other public and private organizations that provide counseling, behavioral health services, crisis support, recovery resources, and community-based care.
The proclamation also acknowledges the partnerships among healthcare professionals, educators, public safety agencies, nonprofit organizations, churches, and community leaders working together to improve access to services, reduce stigma, and strengthen support systems for residents throughout Cullman.
“Mental Health Awareness Month is an important opportunity to bring attention to an issue that affects so many people, often quietly and behind the scenes,” Jacobs said. “I’m grateful for the organizations and individuals in our community who work every day to support mental wellness and help people find hope and healing.”
Observed nationally each May, Mental Health Awareness Month encourages greater understanding of mental health conditions and promotes the importance of early support, treatment, and ongoing mental wellness.
Mayor Jacobs encouraged residents to prioritize their mental wellness, support those who may be struggling, and continue fostering a community where compassion, understanding, and access to care remain priorities for all.
